Literacy

*Part of our Free Course Programme

Course description: On this course you will learn how to understand the main ideas and meanings in writing so you can find the information you need quickly and easily. You will be shown how paragraphs, headings and subheadings help your ideas flow in a logical order. You will learn how to adapt your style of writing to suit both your purpose and audience. You will be shown how to proof read your writing to check that it makes sense, how to spell words correctly and how to ensure that your grammar and punctuation is accurate. You will practice your reading and writing skills in realistic and everyday situations. Your course will be classroom based and your tutor will work with you to decide what you want to learn and will provide personal support to help you achieve your goals. You will have the chance to use computers to help you with your learning and will be able to take work away to study on your own if you wish. Once your tutor feels that you have progressed and you feel ready, then you will take a nationally recognised test in adult Literacy.
