About This Course

GCSE  Human Physiology & Health

WHAT WILL I STUDY?

The course is designed with adult students in mind. It fulfils the criteria for a science subject at GCSE and is therefore suitable for students wanting to enter nursing or other health professions. You will explore three areas:

•·        Relations between man and other Organisms. This includes:

•·        Basic Ecology

•·        Health and Hygiene

•·        Man's influence on the environment.

•·        Organization and Maintenance of the Individual. This includes:

•·        Cells and Biochemistry

•·        Nutrition

•·        Blood Circulation

•·        Breathing

•·        Hormones

•·        Muscle and Skeletal System.

•·        Reproduction, Growth and Development. This includes:

•·        Cell Division and Genetics

ARE THERE ANY ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?

There are no formal entry requirements although you should be able to meet the demands of this course including the amount of time devoted to private study.

HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT?

The course is delivered through a combination of classroom activities and private study. You will spend two and a half hours a week in the classroom and spend a similar amount of time studying on your own. The self-study part of the course is very important and you should make sure you have the time available in order to complete the course successfully.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

The course is assessed by a combination of coursework and exams.

The coursework folder is worth 25% of your final grade and is produced throughout the year. It will consist of 

A practical research project based around an area studied in the course.

The Exam is worth 75% of your final grade and is taken at the end of the course. It will consist of:

A two-hour paper. The paper will test all areas of the course
