WHAT WILL I STUDY?

You will study subjects relating to all aspects of Children's Care, Learning and Development

Developing and promote positive relationships
Promote children's development
Develop and maintain a healthy, safe and secure environment for children
Protect and promote children's rights
Reflect on and develop practice

HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT?
You will attend college for 2 ½ hours each week for 38 weeks to develop the skills, knowledge and understanding needed in Children's Care, Learning and Development employment sectors.  The college based ‘workshop' sessions include opportunities for learning through theory and practice.  You will also attend tutorial sessions with an assessor to identify how to produce the work-based evidence needed to meet the standards. If you do not have an appropriate literacy qualification you will also be required to attend literacy classes as agreed at your interview.

HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?
To successfully complete the course you must produce a portfolio containing evidence of your ability to carry out all aspects of the standards competently and consistently. This will include records of relevant experiences at your place of work and assessments in your workplace by your assessor.

Entry Requirements

Be working (paid or voluntary) in a supporting capacity for a minimum of 12 hours per week as one of the following: teaching assistant, classroom assistant, learning support assistant, special needs assistant, bilingual assistant. Have special responsibilities including students learning and meeting additional support needs Age 18 or over Have a good level of numeracy and Literacy up to Level 2 Hold a current criminal records bureau certificate (CRB)
