About This Course

Level 1 Numeracy

WHAT WILL I STUDY?
This is an ideal opportunity to polish up your number skills. Each part of the course is designed to build your confidence in using numbers. You will learn how to understand ratios, fractions, decimals and percentages and how to deal with large numbers. Good measuring skills are essential in our lives and you will learn about length, weight and liquids using the metric system.  You will also learn how to understand charts, graphs and tables and how to understand and work out averages. By the time you have finished the course you will be well prepared for further study.


HOW IS THE COURSE TAUGHT?
The classes are friendly, relaxed and enjoyable.  Your tutor will work with you to decide what you want to learn and will provide personal support to help you achieve your goals. The classes will involve working with other learners and individually. You will have the chance to use computers to help you with your learning. You will be able to take work home to study on your own if you wish.


HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED?

Your tutor will discuss with you how you are progressing throughout the course. When you are ready you will take a nationally recognised certificate in Adult Literacy. You will have 1 hour and 15 minutes to take the test and you can take it online or as a paper-based examination.


WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I ACHIEVE?

The OCR Level 1 Certificate in Adult Numeracy

 2 Numeracy


WHAT WILL I STUDY?
At Level 2 you will learn how to use numbers accurately in a wide variety of everyday situations. You will learn how to analyse complex tables, pie charts and trend lines, and how to represent data in charts.  You will learn how to convert between different currencies and systems of measurement. The course will provide you with confidence in dealing with negative numbers, converting between fractions, decimals and percentages and using scale drawings.  You will learn how to use ratios and formulas.
The mathematical skills and understanding you will gain will give you a good foundation for progression to GCSE Maths.

Entry Requirements

Level 1, there are no formal entry requirements. Level 2, You must have a Level 1 Certificate in Adult Numeracy
